Criminal Investigation Division
The
Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is comprised of one
sergeant, seven detectives, one crime analyst, and one evidence
technician / property manager. This unit investigates major
crimes, as well as those requiring resources not available
within the patrol division. Criminal Investigators utilize
advanced tools and training in order to prevent and solve crime
for residents and businesses in the Town of Normal.
The functions and activities of the Criminal Investigation Division include:
- Investigating criminal cases;
- Tracking and frequent monitoring of registered sexual offenders;
- Processing crime scenes and storing evidence;
- Maintaining criminal intelligence files;
- Testifying for the Grand Jury; and
- Performing Background checks for police applicants.
General Investigations
The cases investigated by these detectives include: theft, sexual assault, burglary, robbery, disorderly conduct, assaults, and battery.

The financial crimes unit investigates cases of identity theft, deceptive practice, forgery, credit card fraud, and counterfeiting.

- File a police report.

Domestic Violence
One specially trained detective and an advocate are assigned to conduct follow-up investigations and provide assistance to victims of domestic related cases. The team can provide information on the Illinois Domestic Violence Act, residency options, and orders of protection.

Juvenile Division
Detectives
assigned to this division investigate crimes committed by, or
against, youth under the age of seventeen. Three detectives
(school resource officers) are assigned to work within the Unit
5 schools, and investigate crimes that occur on school
property. The Juvenile Detective investigates criminal activity
involving youth in the community. A Licensed Clinical Social
Worker is also available to provide assessment, referral, and
support to juveniles and families who have police contact or
display disruptive, defiant behaviors.
